I wanted to share with you a community service initiative that my team, Racker Accounting Services (RAS), has undertaken over the past two years. In 2009, RAS Rackers began our commitment to the children of Boysville. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences for many of us on the RAS team.
Boysville of Texas is a non-profit organization providing long-term care for at-risk children in a nurturing, healing shelter. Boysville cares for children of all ages, through college or vocational school.
In the last 18 months, at least five RAS team outings have been a day of service to Boysville. We’ve used some of our fun money budget and made personal donations to host Halloween pumpkin painting for toddlers and Pre-K children, Spring Break field day events for all the kids and their foster parents, and a fun in the sun event during summer vacation. We’ve also helped decorate Boysville facilities for the Christmas holidays, wrapped Christmas gifts, and donated school supplies for back-to-school.
Last week, we were back at Boysville for our annual Spring Break event. Some of our RAS Rackers hosted breakfast to kickoff the day of activities. Another group of RAS Rackers organized sports activities. Other RAS Rackers made Easter bunny baskets from milk cartons with the toddlers and Pre-K kids. A fourth group of Rackers cleaned, organized and redesigned the Boysville library.
While we are told that our impact to Boysville has been significant, I believe that the impact from serving the children of Boysville has been greater to our lives. When you can bring the passion and commitment of so many Rackers to a community service initiative like this, that passion and commitment is multiplied and it permeates all facets of our work and personal lives. It’s an incredible feeling – catch it, Rackers!
