Dee accepting the Optimist Scholarship Award from Jim Hollerbach, past Boysville PresidentFor the past seven years, Dee Franklin, now 18, has grown in so many ways. Standing at over 6 feet tall, Dee’s love for basketball and for LeBron James will never fade. It is his current love for academics and learning that has helped Dee envision what the future holds for this bright young man.

A once shy young man, Dee is a member of the Boysville basketball team for the past two years and maintained a steady presence on the A/B honor roll. He was nominated Captain of the Debate team and was awarded sixth place in a Persuasive Speaking Competition. He also has perfect attendance in school. He is the recipient of the Maury Holden Scholarship presented by the Spurs and the Optimist Club of San Antonio Scholarship.

On campus, Dee is very athletic and participates on the Home Olympics team.

“At Boysville, I learned the meaning of hard work, focusing on goals and what the real meaning of family is,” said Dee. He credits Mr. Ned, Boysville recreational program director, as being the person who influenced him the most.

“He taught me community service, helped me with school work and made me a well-rounded person,” said Dee.

Dee will be attending Texas Southern University in the fall and plans on majoring in sociology or psychology. He wants to help children in need.
